Barbados Day Two: Welcome to the divine Fairmont Royal Pavilion

Having gone straight from the airport to the Barbados' Friday evening festivities at Oistin's Fish Fry and the Barbados Rum and Food Festival pop-up, I checked into my hotel Fairmont Royal Pavilion so late I didn't see anything except darkness and lights brightening the walk-way.  So exhausted was I from my travels -- and from a fairly punishing summer of work in D.C. -- I barely took in the newly renovated Junior Suite at the hotel before I collapsed into bed.

The next morning I woke up, opened the black-out window drapes (black-out drapes should be mandatory in any luxury hotel) and gasped to see the view.

"Immaculate perfection" is the only phrase which came to my mind.  The sand looked cleaner than a new-born baby and the ocean water looked fake in its clarity and color permeation.  "I love this!" I thought to myself, praising all my life choices which brought me to Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados for Labor Day Weekend, before my stomach growled and I had to tear myself from this view to get some breakfast.

Located on the Platinum Coast of Barbados, the Fairmont Royal Pavilion used to be a plantation (like most of the sprawling and elegant buildings on this historic former British colony).  Half-a-mile long of prime beachfront sits directly next to the 72 Oceanfront Deluxe Rooms and Beachfront Junior Suites of the 2017 renovated hotel.  Literally RIGHT next to the beach:  I opened my sliding door, walked the few steps from my private balcony, directly onto the sugary-sands.

Eleven acres of lush tropical gardens also helps set the backdrop for a truly restorative holiday.

The hotel has plenty of leisure facilities, like the pool, including daily afternoon tea served overlooking the Caribbean Sea, a weekly Manager’s cocktail reception, property-wide wifi, fitness room, tennis courts, garden tours, non-motorized water sports and a spectacular swim with the
turtle activities.  Do not miss the chance to have an in-room massage and reflexology treatment.  I had a hard time not spending my entire day just laying on the beach and not doing anything but, for the in-room massage and reflexology treatment, I would fly down to Barbados to just have another one!

Other note-worthy details of the hotel’s renovations include cutting-edge lighting technology, flat-screen televisions, state-of-the-art joinery, and dazzling bar sets. Natural woods and tones were used to brighten interiors, which have been re-arrayed to make best possible use of their space.  For instance, Junior Suites are more flexible than before, offering a curtain that can be drawn to increase guest privacy by creating two different areas within the same room.

Also available is a Continental Breakfast as well as a slew of the most tasty cocktails.  I don't eat a lot of breakfast so the Continental Breakfast was wasted on me; however, I had more than my fair share of the incredible cocktails like the Rum Shots pictured below.  Pure shot, no filter, just Barbados sun ... LOVE!

And the Fairmont Royal Pavilion's sweets program is, in my opinion, one of the best in the world.  The macaroons in my welcome dessert were crushed within minutes, and the deconstructed Banana Donuts, with caramel dipping sauce, cinnamon ice cream and toasted coconut flakes, is something I will 100% attempt to make back in D.C.

During my stay, the room rate was a mere $378 and I just could not believe it.  For the quality of the room renovation, the food and proximity to perfect beaches, I would have paid two or three times that and I highly recommend anyone go to the Fairmont Royal Pavilion for a weekend holiday -- or for a longer week-long stay.  I know I will 100% be back ASAP!!!

Many thanks Fairmont Royal Pavilion for the wonderful visit!
