TAPS is a Washington-DC based nonprofit that provides resources for family members grieving the loss of a military loved one. Every year, a number of our REI Adventures are made into private programs for individuals and TAPS staff, allowing them to participate in itineraries such as Mt. Shasta Climbing, Grand Canyon South Rim Hiking, Yellowstone Kayaking, and more. The intent is for survivors to find new purpose, gain perspective and remember what it feels like to live with determination. For example, in 2010, Krista from Wisconsin lost her son in Afghanistan, and in 2016 she participated in our Mt Shasta Climb with TAPS. Since then, she has summited 19 of the country’s highest points.
