Thanks Kimpton Donovan Hotel!

As you all know, I have been bingeing through Washington, D.C. area hotels to build the directory of the city's hotels for The Telegraph. So far my favorite overall experience has been at the Omni Shoreham DC while the best design scheme has been at the brand new The Darcy Hotel, a Curio Collection by Hilton. (In case you really want to know, my absolute least favorite is The Watergate Hotel -- I'm like an abused person where I keep coming back to give them a second chance and they keep messing it up! More on the disaster of my three different experiences over the last 13 months later.) Last night, I stayed at the Kimpton Donovan Hotel just off of Logan Circle, by the hip restaurant scene of 14th Street.

I have on two previous occasions been to Kimpton Donovan House. The first was to visit the rooftop pool many, many, MANY years ago for a party (2011). The second was literally a week ago to meet up with some friends at ZENTAN, the sushi restaurant anchoring the hotel. Neither occasion was particularly memorable to me mostly because I didn't stay at either location very long.
The same was true of this visit as well. My stay was only for one evening but the Kimpton Donovan House put me up in the presidential suite with its fantastic views of Logan Circle. I have to say I am definitely a city-girl: there is nothing that gets me going like a great cityscape view!

Of course since the hotel upgraded me to the presidential suite, I had a slew of tasty amenities to welcome me like sweets, cheese, fruits and a bottle of Tattinger Champagne. I didn't touch any of them because I had just gotten back from nearly 7 miles of exercise outside -- and barely had time to shower and change before I had to get back out again -- so I can't say whether they were any good but they certainly photographed well.

I eventually did try the food at breakfast today and the food was fine. Nothing to write home about -- and they don't have anything complimentary except for La Columbe coffee, which is very strong. Actually, I change my mind. The cappuccino was frothy and excellent!!

Overall, not a bad deal for the money except if I don't know anything about D.C. I would say the fact it isn't close to a metro stop (five blocks away) might be hard. I don't mind walking so I would say it is certainly worth a stay.
