Yesterday, Examiner.com published my second travel article. This was a round-up of the "best of Munich, Germany." You can find the link to the article here: http://www.examiner.com/article/the-best-of-munich-germany.

While London, Paris and Rome gets more than its fair share of visitors over summer break, oftentimes forgotten European cities such as Munich, Germany have numerous sartorial displays of splendor to invite a pilgrimage. This Bavarian capital is home to gorgeous gothic buildings, large-scale gardens (including Olympic Park) and of course the world famous Oktoberfest celebration. But Munich is more than just cavernous beer halls like the Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589, with several Michelin starred and burgeoning foodie favorites situated all throughout this city.

Fly on Airberlin which offers a flawless and very cheap economy class service from DCA to Munich. The food is more than manageable but it’s really the in-flight entertainment system with numerous new releases to easily give Netflix a run for its money. The only flaw on Airberlin’s 7 ½ hour flight might be the lack of wi-fi; however, if the sole complaint about this flight is the lack of wi-fi, then it’s easy to see why one should fly Airberlin. Don’t forget to receive your Lindt chocolate heart as you deboard as a sweet thank-you for flying with them.

Once landed in Munich, do not waste any money on taxis or any hotel offered personal chauffeured service. There is no cleaner, safer and faster public metro system in Europe than the one in Munich. The MVV has no trash strewn haphazardly -- no newspapers laying around, no dumps of gum, no empty coffee cups -- in either the station or on the trains. Plus for the directionally challenged, the trains into the heart of Munich (S1 and S8) are super easy to catch -- and dirt cheap. A mere 11 euros.

Stay at the readily accessible Hotel Konigshof, one of the Leading Hotels of the World, located in the heart of Munich’s town square on Sonnenstraße, directly opposite Karlsplatz/Stachus. It is literally five steps from the metro exit for Karlsplatz. While this old world hotel has slightly too thin walls, the two foot deep soaking tub and “pillow menu” more than make up for any deficiencies.

Enjoy the one-Michelin starred dining at Restaurant Konigshof (or the breakfast buffet) before taking a trip through the city. Definitely walk, as walking is always the best way to catch fun things a sightseeing tour might not always provide. Visit the English Garden, tour all the shops at Marienplatz, hit up the beer garden at Hofbräuhaus, lay out on the green grass of Olympic Park or check out the very cool BMW Museum.

Then relax and enjoy a wonderful beer at one of Munich’s trendy bars and hot spots.
