Opening May 15, the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport in New York City has been one of the most hotly anticipated hotel openings this year. Adding to the excitement is news there will be a pool bar and observation deck on top where avgeeks -- and weary travelers -- can soak, drink, relax and watch all the planes fly in.
Named The Pool Bar and Observation Deck, the infinity pool and its 10,000-square-foot observation deck sits on the horizon of a thrilling scene — JFK’s bustling Runway 4 Left/22 Right, with views all the way to Jamaica Bay. Operated by The Gerber Group, this property was inspired by the infinity edge pool at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France, the swimming spot has a beach entry and underwater seating, but unlike the seasonal operations of the South of France, the Gerber Group will have this space open 365 days/year. During the heat, the water in the 63-by-20-foot infinity edge pool offers a much-needed respite during sweltering summers. And in winter, because as we all know "winter is coming!," the pool turns into a pool-cuzzi — where the water can be heated up to 100 degrees!
Whatever the weather, the H2O is perpetually pristine: the highly filtered water is purified every 30 minutes (a standard pool recirculates every 6 hours!).
