Sensational, bluebird day at Mammoth Mountain

After two incredible days of skiing at Squaw Valley, including a truly patience-bending day of weather on Tuesday, we made the 3 1/2 hour drive over to Mammoth Mountain. If you haven't had a chance to make this scenic drive, you are really missing out. The winding drive around Lake Tahoe, down into Nevada, and back into California was awe-inspiring. Massive lakes, surrounded by snow-top mountains, and a wide-open terrain which makes you wonder, "What must the first explorer thought when they saw this?!?" Truly. You never really realize how majestic this country is until you take a nice drive from Lake Tahoe to Mammoth.

Just like with Squaw, this was my first time skiing Mammoth. For me, both mountains seemed very familiar but I didn't realize until I got here Mammoth was created by volcanic actions. Perhaps this why the pitch is so lovely and the terrain more cavernous. Either way, the real difference for me between the mountains was the weather. Squaw was challenging because of all the rain, sleet and snow. I was so frustrated I actually yelled curse words at Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley as we skied Squaw Valley on Tuesday.

Actually, this is a great story. Billy, my instructor, kept telling me "Don't look down at your skis!! Look down at Jonny Moseley!!" I was scared-to-death because I literally could not see so I just kept yelling, "I don't want to F&*^ING look at Jonny Moseley!!!" haha. We joked about it after the runs, but I am probably the only person in the entire world who didn't want to look at the handsome visage of Jonny Moseley.

Anyhoo. Enough about my crush on Jonny Moseley. Back over to Mammoth yesterday, we ended up skiing almost six hours because the weather was 40 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The resort team had groomed the runs so beautifully I literally crushed my runs. I had no fear, no thought in my brain, except to look down and GO! I hopped off the ski lifts and did a few practice runs down blues before I transitioned over to blacks, even a few diamond blacks. SO EXCITING!

Literally, at the end of the day, the only thought in my brain was, "I wish Jonny Moseley was here to see how magnificent I did today!"

For those of you who wish to ski this season, it's not too late. Unlike Colorado, California has had such an incredible amount of snow, the ski resorts are going to stay open until past July 4th! I highly recommend you consider coming here for Memorial Day weekend and skiing Mammoth, particularly if you are looking to move over from being an intermediate skier to an advance skier. Also, definitely rent from the Demo Shop these K2 Luv skis. I think equipment really helps you with your performance and these were much better than the ones I had over at Squaw.

Today is another travel day so I am not skiing but I can guarantee you I will be coming back! Thanks for the memories Mammoth and for the massive confidence build! I feel like an Olympic-level skier already!
