Last night I had a chance to go back to the only Forbes Five-Star D.C. hotel, the Trump International Hotel, for the first time in approximately eight months. The team behind Executive Chef David Burke's BLT Prime had heard I hadn't eaten at their restaurant and they insisted I go back. Lucky for me, I ran into the the real Mayor of D.C., Daniel Mahdavian the Director of Food & Beverage at Trump International Hotel, and he kept us rolling with laughter and merriment until it was time to dine. I really loved this "Belle of Congress" cocktail. Made with Belvedere Vodka, Champagne, Lavender, Lemon juice and flowers -- because I like my cocktails "sweeter" they added some more Lavender -- it ended up being the most perfect fall cocktail. DELICIOUS!
As for the restaurant itself, BLT Prime is the exact steakhouse for those who go to Trump International Hotel needed. It has impeccable service and, with its elevated dining space above the lobby, everyone gets a good look at all the VIP's (including the President) who come to the hotel.

As for the food itself, it is a bit saltier than I prefer but I did very much enjoy this chocolate peanut butter dessert. I noticed this dessert was constantly streaming out of the kitchen so I wanted it for myself. I liked the balance between the chocolate and peanut butter, however, I would have preferred a heartier exterior shell to the chocolate mousse. In fact, if I were making the dessert, I would have taken the caramel topper placed at the height of the home-spun ice cream and encased the chocolate mousse with it, added some more sugar to the peanut butter mousse and called it a day. Still, much preferable to the chocolate molten cake.

If you do end up going to eat at BLT Prime, note how popular the restaurant is in D.C.. In fact, last night at dinner there were hardly any empty seats at all upstairs -- and this was during congressional recess, two weeks out from Election Day. It speaks to the power of the brand and the service at both Trump International Hotel as well as BLT Prime. Definitely make reservations and ask to be seated upstairs. The view of the gorgeous space makes for excellent photos.
